I was lucky enough to get a private of the museum when I visited with my wife Torie and our two kids. (Riley 10 & Bella 8) Right off the bat, the entrance to the museum was impressive. Driving into Barber almost felt like driving into an airport, with the long road with multiple informational signs all the way up to when you get to the physical location of the building.
Cool side note, the Southern Museum of Flight is building a new museum next to Barber and once it opens you’ll need to stay at a hotel to visit both because it is possible for Barber to take up your whole day. We spent a good 3.5 hours at the museum and it really didn’t feel like that long and honestly, I could have spent even more time there, but the kids hit their threshold.
Torie and I really liked the large sculptures that were on display in front of the museum and the kids found it hilarious that they didn’t have any junk. There were smaller, still very unique pieces of art on display inside the museum.
There are over 280 different brands of motorcycles on display and there is a collection of over 1,400 motorcycles that span over 100 years of production. You do not get to see all 1400 motorcycles since the museum regularly rotates the bikes in and out of 3 warehouses so they can maintain ever motorcycle in the collection and change up displays so the museum looks different each time you visit. There are more than 650 motorcycles on display on any given day and about 200 manufacturers from over 20 different countries.
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is more than just a collection of motorcycles, there are also multiple cars on display, including a Model T pickup, 58 Bel Air, Porsche’s and the largest collection of Lotus’ in the world. Plus, the track is a destination in its own right.
Did I mention Barber was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as being the world’s largest motorcycle collection?
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum exists because of Mr. Barber’s passion for motorsports and his philanthropy interest to create the nonprofit museum so people from all over the world can enjoy all the pieces of automotive art on display.
I took a ton of pictures inside the museum and they really do not do it justice. The pictures are cool, but you really do have to come to see everything in person. Plus you never know who or what you might run into. I saw an all original Yamaha DT360 like the one I own that belonged to Torie’s mother and we ran into Wayne Carini from Chasing Classic Cars.
Barber Vintage Motorsports always seems to have something going on so I’d recommend visiting their website or Facebook Page to see what might be going on and you can plan your trip accordingly.
When you visit look for all the “easter eggs” scattered throughout the complex. You might see Bigfoot fishing, a police officer walking a tiger, a gigantic spider or a skeleton under the elevator. (may or may not be real 😉

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Mustang Museum of America in Odenville, Alabama and I’ve got to say I was really impressed especially once I was told how recently the museum started. The Mustang Museum of America officially opened its 30,000 square foot collection to the public in March of 2019.
The museum is family owned and operated and most of the vehicles on display are privately owned. Now if you have a mustang you’d like to display in the museum they do accept individually owned cars provided they are mostly originally and museum quality. You can learn more about the museum’s requirements for displaying your car by visiting their website.
One of the most impressive things I saw during my visited the museum was their collection of state trooper vehicles including a USPS and USAF Fox body. I was told the museum has every state but one that ordered one, but they are currently working on adding that state as well.
The museum is not far off of HWY 20 and a quick drive from Birmingham. I was able to visit on my way home back to Atlanta, GA without much of a detour at all and it was totally worth it, especially if you’re a Ford Mustang fan.

I had the opportunity to visit the museum on a Sunday afternoon and got a Panoz history lesson by the curator, Sydney. Sydney explained the various models including when the Panoz bodies switched from being all aluminum to full carbon fiber.
When it came to explaining the racing history and the pedigree of the Panoz brand Sydney didn’t miss a beat. You want to see the car that Dr. Panoz thought he killed Mario Andretti in it that car is on display. You want to see the first race car hybrid in the world, that’s on display as well.
The museum itself is by no means a large museum, but what is on display illustrates what Dr. Panoz intended these cars to be all about. You can order yourself a Panoz if you like, but you may have to wait just a little bit before you can take delivery since they only build one car per year.
If you’re like most of us you may want to settle for a t-shirt, hat or scale model. Panoz is less than an hour from the heart of Atlanta and is near the world-class resort, winery, and golf course, Chateau Elan.
You can visit the Panoz Museum for free Wednesday through Saturday. Enjoy the gallery of photos we took during our trip.

Whenever I travel somewhere I always look for some sort of automotive museum visit. In this case I was heading out on a cruise with my family departing from Tampa Bay and discovered The Tampa Bay Automobile Museum, located in the Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg area of west central Florida.
The Tampa Bay Automobile Museum is super neat and features some really unique European vehicles including a Tracta, Citroen and even a Mathis prototype. (which I been personally looking for one stateside) There’s even a DeLorean (Back to the Future time machine car) and an all-wheel drive Ford Mustang. There is some really, really neat stuff in the museum that I’ve never seen anywhere else, but I don’t want to completely ruin it for you so you’re going to have to visit.
The Tampa Bay Automobile Museum is privately owned and yes the owner does get the vehicles out and drive. Unfortunantely, I didn’t get a chance to personally meet the owner, but the two gentleman working full-time at the museum are absolutely amazing. My only regret is that I didn’t bring a recorder to record the vast amount of knowledge they could share about each of the vehicles on display.
This museum is worth the visit for any automotive enthusasist. If you can spare a few extra hours before or after your cruise out of Tampa like I did, a stop here is a no-brainer.
Believe me the pictures I took do not do this place justice, but just in case you won’t be able to visit anytime soon I hope you enjoy the gallery.
