WISCONSIN

Wisconsin is a midwestern U.S. state with coastlines on 2 Great Lakes (Michigan and Superior) and an interior of forests and farms. Milwaukee, the largest city, is known for the Milwaukee Public Museum, with its numerous re-created international villages, and the Harley-Davidson Museum, displaying classic motorcycles. Several beer companies are based in Milwaukee, and many offer brewery tours.

AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY

Although Detroit is known today as the birthplace of the automobile industry in the United States, Wisconsin, and specifically the Milwaukee area, made many contributions to the early years of the auto industry. Since 1900, more than eighty different makes of automobiles have been manufactured in Wisconsin. In 1873, the first steam-powered, self-propelled vehicle in the United States was designed and operated by Reverend Dr. J.W. Carhart of Racine of Wisconsin.
