BMW Car Club of America Foundation – Genesis Collection

BMW Car Club of America Foundation – Genesis Collection

I recently got an opportunity to visit the BMW Car Club of America Foundation Museum in Greer, SC.  Their exhibits change frequently and at the moment they had the Genesis: BMW from the beginning on display.

bmw museum

Each car is privately owned and temporarily on display in the museum and they are all beautiful and extremely rare.  Some of the cars on display are the only ones in the country.  There is an audio tour you can listen to as you tour the museum which is a fantastic touch.

I took a bunch of photos and a quick video but it really doesn’t do this collection in the museum any justice, you need to visit and see it in person.  There is a lot to learn and read so plan to be there for about an hour.

The Genesis Exhibit is now over. Check out the BMW Z Cars

Tiriac Collection

Tiriac Collection was started out of a passion for cars by Mr. Ion Tiriac.
Ion Tiriac – a tennis champion and one of the most important sports promoters, both in Romania and abroad – graduated from the Institute of Physical Culture of Bucharest (currently known as the National Academy of Physical Education and Sport), being awarded with the title of Professor of Physical Education and Sports, with a major in tennis and basketball.
Between 1958 and 1964, Mr. Tiriac excelled as a professional hockey player, within the ”Stiința” Sports Club of Bucharest and took part, as a member of the National Team, in the Ice Hockey World Championship, representing Romania at the Winter Olympics held in Innsbruck in 1964.
Additionally, from 1957 to 1972, he was also registered as a tennis player at Brasov ”Steagul Rosu” Sports Club and at Bucharest ”Dinamo” Sports Club, winning over 40 titles, including the Roland Garros tournament, together with Ilie Nastase . He also took part in over 150 Davis Cup matches representing Romania, including the three finals against the United States team. For his performances, Mr. Ion Tiriac was awarded the title of “Master Emeritus in Sports”.
Located in Otopeni, just across Henri Coanda Airport, the gallery was launched in November 2013 and covers now approximately 4,300 sqm. Visitors will discover models of the most important car manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Cadillac, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Ford, Chevrolet, Harley Davidson and Indian Scout.
The gallery is the only current collection in the world that features all the seven Rolls-Royce Phantom models of the I-VII series, including 2 units from the IV series, the most exclusive Rolls Royce generation ever built. Only 18 cars were manufactured between 1950 and 1956, originally designed for Royals and heads of state.
The oldest model of the collection is a Hurtu 3 1/2 Quadricycle, manufactured in 1899, one of the seven units still existing.
All models displayed at the Țiriac Collection gallery are fully functional, being serviced by a dedicated team of professionals. Some of the units exhibited were completely restored by Tiriac Collection’s engineers.

Shelby American Collection

Shelby American Collection

The Shelby American Collection celebrates the rich heritage of the Cobra, Shelby Mustang, and Ford GT 40 cars that changed the face of auto racing in the 1960s. Thanks to the generosity of owners and collectors, they have some of the most important American cars ever made on display at the Boulder museum, along with an extensive collection of race records, period photographs, memorabilia, and tributes to the pioneer drivers and visionaries of the era including Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant, Phil Hill, Phil Remington and other Shelby American Team member.

Since 1996 the Shelby American Collection historic car museum has been open to the public. Started by several Shelby American enthusiasts who lived in Boulder and the surrounding areas. Carroll Shelby himself was involved in the museum until he passed in 2012. The collection is a volunteer-run non-profit organization open every Saturday.
