NORTH CAROLINA

North Carolina is a southeastern U.S. state with a landscape ranging from Atlantic Ocean beaches to the Appalachian Mountains. Charlotte, the state’s largest city, is home to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and museums such as the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The state motto (“First in Flight”) honors the Wright Brothers, who flew their first plane in Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks, barrier islands lined with popular beaches.

AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY

The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles through the Virginia and North Carolina mountains and has remained what historian William Powell describes as a travel experience “never to be forgotten”. In 1912, Colonel Joseph Hyde Pratt first suggested the parkway, but the highway was not completed until 1987. It remains a public road free of industrial development and a park showcasing mountain views of the Blue Ridge and is one of western North Carolina’s most popular tourist destinations.
