WYOMING

Wyoming is a western U.S. state defined by vast plains and the Rocky Mountains. Its famed Yellowstone National Park, a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area, is home to hundreds of animal species, dramatic canyons and alpine rivers. The park’s gushing geysers include the iconic Old Faithful. To the south is Grand Teton National Park, known for backcountry skiing areas, forested trails and Snake River.

AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY

When Elmer Lovejoy’s family first moved to Wyoming in 1884, he already had a need for speed. By the age of 12, Lovejoy was working for the family’s bicycle shop in Laramie. In 1886 Lovejoy set out to build his own “horseless carriage” as word spread about the invention of the new gasoline-powered automobile. After spending a year designing and building the automobile, Wyoming’s first car was finally ready for a drive on May 7, 1898.
