Grampian Transport Museum

Grampian Transport Museum

Located in the historic village of Alford, just 45 minutes from Aberdeen, the Grampian Transport Museum boasts an impressive range of transport exhibits, from traveling chariots of the 1800s to some of the fastest cars ever made.

The museum is a living museum that probes the past, present, and future. Many exhibits are climb aboard, hands-on, and even ride-on! The exhibits are updated every year during the closed season, providing a wide range of new and exciting things to see each year.

Why not make a day of it? Visit the museum and stop off at the Travellers Rest Tea Room for a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat. We can accommodate school trips and groups. Discounts for groups of 12 or more are available.

Throughout the year the museum has an extensive outdoor events program, with such events taking place as Alford SpeedFest, Grampian Motorcycle Convention, Family Fun Days, and How Many Left?

Grampian Transport Museum continues to build on strengths that won it the title of ‘Visitor Attraction of the Year’ at the 2014 Aberdeen City & Shire Tourism Awards and is home to the Visitor Information Centre for the area.

Bubble Car Museum

Microcars or bubble cars are a significant part of British motoring history. An alternative to full-size cars, these small, fuel-efficient vehicles were powered by engines of less than 700cc in size.

The Bubble Car Museum has over 50 microcars on display, many in thought-provoking dioramas. Examples of Bond, Isetta, Reliant, Frisky, and Bamby to name but a few.

There is also a row of recreated shops for you to explore, memorabilia, a gift shop, and a cafe – great for afternoon tea!

British Motor Museum

The British Motor Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of historic British Cars; it boasts nearly 400 cars in its collection which span the classic, vintage and veteran eras.

Situated in the small village of Gaydon, Warwickshire, just off junction 12 of the M40. The Museum building is a spectacular piece of architecture with an art deco design, whilst the Collections Centre building is a modern contrast. Together they stand proudly in a beautifully landscaped setting of 65 acres, which rolls out onto the Warwickshire countryside.

THE MUSEUM STORY
The Museum opened in 1993 as the amalgamation of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust’s preserved car collection.

The Trust decided that the car collection and artefacts were outgrowing its then two locations, Studley in Warwickshire and a museum in Syon Park in London. A dedicated purpose-built residence was needed to give the collection pride of place and open for public viewing.

It was the Trust’s mission to keep the memory of the British motor industry alive and to tell its story to all, starting from the beginning of the 20th Century to present day. So a building was designed that not only housed the cars and its extensive motoring archive, but also had educational and conference facilities thus ensuring its sustainability. The Heritage Motor Centre, as it was first known, opened in May 1993.
