Richard Childress Racing Museum

Richard Childress Racing Museum

The Richard Childress Racing Museum, located front and center on the 52-acre RCR campus in Welcome, North Carolina, offers visitors a walk-through time and traces how an independent one-car team evolved into one of NASCAR’s most successful organizations.

The RCR Museum takes visitors through a journey that includes team owner Richard Childress’ earliest days as a NASCAR driver, the championship-winning years with Dale Earnhardt and the No. 3 team, the evolution and success of the team after Earnhardt’s untimely passing, and Childress’ passion for the outdoors.

Based in the 47,000-square foot shop that was home to Earnhardt’s No. 3 team for many years, visitors have the opportunity to step back in time to see race cars and other artifacts that have contributed to some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history.

The museum hosts the largest collection of No. 3 Goodwrench Chevrolets, including the 1998 Daytona 500-winning car, the 1995 Brickyard 400 winner and each of the special paint schemes driven by Earnhardt in the All-Star races from 1995-2000. Guests can learn how the RCR crew developed, built and prepared Chevrolets each week by walking through the different departments of the old race shop.

The museum is also home to some of the team’s most successful cars and iconic moments outside of the Earnhardt-Childress legacy:
– 2001 No. 29 Chevrolet driven to victory by Kevin Harvick at Atlanta Motor Speedway
– 2003 Brickyard 400-winning No. 29 Chevrolet
– 2007 No. 29 Chevrolet as it left Victory Lane after RCR’s second Daytona 500
– 1998 Budweiser Shootout-wining No. 31 Chevrolet driven by Mike Skinner

Along with the team’s Cup Series success, the museum also showcases RCR’s championship efforts in the NASCAR XFINITY, Camping World Truck Series and ARCA Racing Series. The center section of the facility is dedicated to Childress’ devotion to wildlife and outdoor conservation. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited, all actively involved in the conservation of the nation’s wildlife and natural resources, are showcased in this area along with many of the animal trophies Childress has taken over the years.

The RCR team store has all of the latest apparel and souvenirs for RCR fans of all ages and sizes.

Look closely and you will see former No. 3 pit crew member and Museum curator Danny “Chocolate” Myers in his office, often recording his live show on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Himes Museum of Motor Racing Nostalgia

Himes Museum of Motor Racing Nostalgia

The Himes Museum of Motor Racing Nostalgia welcomes you to enjoy an experience that you have never experienced before.

This museum is like no other museum you have ever visited. This is a much different experience than most of the other very formal museums; no ropes, poles, or glass cases holding you back. Everything is hands-on and interactive at The Himes Museum. The stuff some museums consider junk or trash, is considered gold at Marty’s museum. Because you see everything has a meaning, and he can tell you the history of each and everything located on the footprint of the museum property.

Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame Classic Car Museum

The Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame Classic Car Museum building was originally intended to house Donnelly’s collection of classic cars, but Andy Fusco and Gary Spaid convinced him to include a Hall of Fame for the region’s dirt Modified drivers, with historic stock cars on display. Jack Speno was named curator of the Museum.

Fusco, Spaid, Gary Rowe, and Gary Chadwick drew up a charter, outlining driver eligibility for induction. These four individuals, plus Tom Skibinski, comprised the original selection committee.

The inaugural induction ceremonies were held on April 12, 1992, with 12 drivers and one pioneer driver being selected. A set of hero cards and posters were sold, honoring that first class. The ceremonies were followed by a Hall of Fame race at Weedsport Speedway.

National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum

National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum

The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum is open seven days a week, 362 days a year. The only museum in the world dedicated to the history of sprint car racing!

The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum’s non-profit foundation was founded in 1986 by some of sprint car racing’s visionaries, including Knoxville Raceway Promoter Ralph Capitani, Casey’s General Stores Founder Don Lamberti, sprint car builder CK Spurlock and others who wanted to both promote the future of sprint car racing and also preserve sprint car racing’s history. The museum was opened in 1991, in turn, two at the world-famous Knoxville Raceway and operates year-round seven days a week for race fans to come in and learn more about sprint car racing. An average of 30-35 open-wheel race cars are always on display and the exhibits and race cars are loaned to the museum by the owners and fabricators who have restored the race cars. So the sprint cars and exhibits on display are always changing throughout the year, offering race fans a variety of open-wheel race cars to enjoy on every visit.
